The sculpture, which takes the form of a large-scale inflatable set against the backdrop of Singapore’s metropolitan skyline, depicts the dualities of our innermost struggles and the sociopolitical externalities around us. In this new work, two bodies are seen interlocked in a combative position. However, upon walking around the work, one realises that they are in fact perched on a single head. The multiplicity of meanings, inversion of the figures and malleability of the material used for the inflatable all subvert the conventions associated with traditional or monumental figurative sculpture. Untitled (2023) opens new possibilities for engagement and interaction with diverse communities, creating opportunities for unexpected and meaningful encounters.Come explore and play with Gupta’s work in Singapore!
